so this week hasn't gone quite to plan, but i'm not complaining. the time i've spent with my sis and mom has been either a lot of fun or manual work (that's how i earn my keep this summer). i'm a bit behind my quota for today, but i've been chugging along as much as i've been able. stylistically i've been having some issues, bouncing back between a distanced, controlled 3rd person narration and near stream-of-consciousness. the conceptual base of the novel requires both, but i need to find a way of balancing and moving between the two so that the shifts are organized and the reason for them ultimately comprehensible to the reader. so far i've been just dancing around that, though it really needs to be in there at the beginning.

but here's a choice piece from what i wrote on tuesday -- whether it stays or not doesn't matter as much to me now as the amusement i had in writing it:

"He wanted to be inside that bubble with her, if only he wouldn’t befoul it, though he was certain she could cleanse him of that too, that their mess would be holy, an ethereal ejaculation, that would rise up through the bubble in a shimmering array, taking its place amidst the star-strewn heavens… Fuck, what was wrong with him?"

i particularly pride myself on the phrase "ethereal ejaculation", it may in fact be the first time it has ever been used. consider yourselves lucky and/or disturbed.
